Flying Scotsman
ECML 1983During 1983 it was Flying Scotsman's Diamond Jubilee, so for this a special trip was organised for the ECML but British Rail refused permission to run from King's Cross (how times have changed!). So a Sunday in March was booked, but not surprisingly it was overbooked! So for three weekend it was Booked to run Peterborough to York. With the previous evening coming down under the cover of darkness and turned at March the first weekend but around the Fletton Fly-ash loop the others. Seen at Peterborough, Little Bytham, Fletton, Helpston, Newark.
The Fenman 1984In 1984 the New Railway Museum at Woolwich London requested Flying Scotsman and The Queen Mother to open the museum. The novel solution was to send 4472 "FLYING SCOTSMAN" on a railtour from Manchester Victoria to Spalding! Then a fortnight later send it back from Spalding. My Dad manage to book tickets for the first steam into Spalding since 1969 and of course my thirteen year old self joined him. Photos show locations of Manchester Victoria, Sheffield and Spalding with a field scene near Allington Junction on its return trip.
